Solomon Northup, född 10 juli 1807 eller 1808 i Minerva i New York, död cirka 1863, var en amerikansk abolitionist och författare till memoarerna Twelve Years a Slave. 1841 blev Northup erbjuden ett jobb som en resande musiker och åkte till Washington, där blev han drogad, kidnappad och såld som slav. The 15th Year Anniversary of Solomon Northup Celebration was held in July of 2013 and was highlighted by the attendance of staff and actors from the Fox Searchlight film “12 Years a Slave” which was based on the book about and written by Solomon Northup. Solomon Northup’s book, Twelve Years a Slave, was an inspiration for Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It sold 30,000 copies in its day and is dedicated to Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book has been adapted twice for film: Solomon Northup’s Odyssey (1984) and 12 Years a Slave (2013). Patsey is believed to have been born around 1830, in South Carolina. The earliest record of Patsey as a slave is in 1843, when she was 13.

Northup ends this chapter by telling of Epps’ oldest son, a boy about 10 or 12 years old. Northup also describes the fact that Epps required Patsey to submit to his sexual advances as well as the jealousy of Mrs. Epps and her general persecution of Patsey. He also described the jealousy of Mr. Epps when Patsey went to the Shaw plantation, for what he imagined was sex with Mr. Shaw.

And I’m even happier that, pegged to the win, there’s a conversation taking place about what happened to Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), the real-life free musician who was kidnapped and sold into slavery, and after his liberation wrote the abolitionist memoir on which the film is based, and to Patsey (portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o, who won an Academy Award for Best 2014-03-06 · Solomon Northup does manage to find a way to end his ordeal, thanks to an honourable white man, Samuel Bass (Brad Pitt) who sympathizes with the blacks and doesn’t believe in slavery. He returns to his family leaving Patsey and the others behind.
